Course Description
A dynamic format utilizing lecture and demonstration address the rehabilitation management of patients with hand dysfunction. This interactive course is intended for the practicing PT, PTA, OT, COTA with a basic understanding of hand anatomy and pathology. Participants will gain insight into the appropriate therapy intervention to manage common hand diagnoses and acquire ‘Clinical Pearls’ from the experienced instructor. Following a review of hand anatomy, instruction on how to perform a comprehensive hand assessment will be presented. Common hand diagnoses will be discussed including specific tests and the appropriate treatment options. 14 contact hours, 1.4 CEUs

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

bullet perform basic hand evaluation including ROM and strength testing
bullet identify common special tests and know how they relate to hand dysfunction
bullet gain awareness of the variety of rehabilitation products/splint materials available to effectively treat the patient with hand dysfunction
bullet appreciate the theoretical basis behind general approaches utilized to treat hand dysfunction
bullet identify common complications and understand how to appropriately intervene
bullet understand the basic mechanics of splinting the hand
bullet acquire knowledge related to the different rehabilitation and splintsavailable to meet specific patient requirements
