Splinting and Therapy Interventions for Cumulative Trauma Disorders

Course Description
The focus of this course will be to learn about CDTs and various therapy interventions. A
dynamic format utilizing lecture, case studies, demonstration and hands-on lab activities
will address intervention for the most common cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs). This
interactive course is intended for the practicing PT, PTA, OT, COTA with beginner to
advanced skills. Participants will gain insight to the splinting products on the market,
focusing on strategies that will be immediately applicable in the clinic. A wide array of
splinting options will be displayed and presented along with prefabricated splint options.
Various splinting materials will be utilized in the labs including thermoplastics, Kinesio
Tape, and Neoprene.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
bullet identify common CTDs of the upper extremity
bullet recognize common risk factors for development of CTDs
bullet understand principles of proper lifting technique
bullet gain familiarity with the use of a variety of splinting materials including
thermoplastics, Neoprene and Kinesio Tape
bullet appreciate the variety of clinical interventions appropriate for the treatment of CTDs
bullet identify the specific testing for CTDs
