Rehabilitation and
Splinting of the Hand

Course Description
A dynamic format utilizing lecture, demonstration and hands-on
lab activities will address the rehabilitation and splinting management
of patients with hand dysfunction. This interactive course is intended
for the practicing PT, PTA, OT, COTA with minimal splinting skills
and a basic understanding of hand anatomy and pathology. Participants
will gain insight into the appropriate therapy intervention and
splinting products to manage common hand diagnoses and acquire ‘Clinical
Pearls’ from the experienced instructor. Following a review
of hand anatomy, instruction on how to perform a comprehensive
hand assessment will be presented. Common hand diagnoses will be
discussed including specific tests and the appropriate treatment
options.

Course
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able

ROM and strength testing |

how they relate to hand dysfunction |

gain awareness of the variety of splint
materials available to effectively treat the patient with hand
dysfunction |

understand the basic mechanics of splinting

related to individualizing approach of splint fabrication
